The pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has advocated for a Government of National Unity (GNU) in order to tackle the insecurity in the country. According to the organization, a government of national unity was needed to address the security challenges, division among the regions, and the bad economy in the country. Afenifere added that the call was due to the failure of the Muhammadu Buhari government to tackle the identified problems and ensure that the country is safe.

The Senator Ibrahim Shekarau-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the proposals of the national leadership to resolve the crisis rocking the party’s Kano chapter. Recall that Senator Shekarau’s faction, popularly called G-7, has been at loggerheads with Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s leadership of the party in the state leading to two parallel executives in the state. Naija News reports that a Kano high court had also recognised Shekarau’s led faction as authentic.
